Qualifying Cross Country

Qualifying Cross Country

Part of your helicopter flight training for the PPL(H) is a qualifying cross country flight with 2 landings away from your “home” base or starting point which must be 100nm (nautical miles)or more.  From our base in Staffordshire, Nottingham Airport in the East Midlands  and Sywell Aerodrome, again in the Midlands located near to Market Harborough are used. You will need to complete all flight planning including navigational notes, file your flight plan and be prepared to comply with local and national ATC (Air Traffic Control) instructions en-route.

You will be graded on airmanship and your landings by the ATC staff at your remote destinations, so the exercise is quite intensive.  But fear not, Staffordshire Helicopter Training will give you more than just a set of helicopter flying lessons to gain the knowledge and skills to achieve the necessary level, but as our students tell us, the confidence to go aloft and enjoy this part of your helicopter training.  You will of course do a practice cross country before you go for the real thing !!!!

As they say, the proof is in the pudding and last week we completed 3 Qualifying Cross Country sorties in which all our students were successful, 2 students with 4 ratings of “Good” .
